Crime Scene - Advanced Basics
ADVANCED BASICS is a great alternative for those who don't require extensive evidence training or can't schedule a five day class. Students still receive three days of Advanced evidence training. (Days 2, 3, & 4 of the Crucial Minutes)

ADVANCED BASICS is a hands-on class equally valuable for the first response officer, investigator, and evidence technician and includes information on the following: when to request evidence specialists, evidence lost before the barrier tape goes up, evidence found on the arrested suspect, and how to recognize evidence in general. The first day is spent in a detailed study of basic and advanced techniques of fingerprint science (latent and inked). Day two is a study of bloodspatter basics. This segment includes the importance of velocity considerations in interpreting the bloodspatter, formulas for determining angle of impact, discussion of cast off blood and back spatter, and study of transfer patterns. The day concludes with a practical exercise and demonstratoin of blood spatter to determine angle, convergence, and origin. Day three includes discussion and practicals on gunshot residue/trace metal detection and footwear/tiretrack documentation and casting. Trace metal topics include shortwave UV light exam, pattern observation, and documentation and casting. Trace metal topics include shortwave UV light exam, pattern observation, and documentation. Gunshot residue topics cover proper swabbing techniques & common reasons for conflicting and inconclusive results. Footwear/tiretrack topics include protecting the impression, photography techniques, dental stone casting, dustprint lifting, and sketching.
