This class is designed to provide investigators, firearms examiners, crime scene technicians, attorneys and other interested individuals with a basic understanding of the theory and practice of shooting reconstruction.The 24-hour, three day instructional module combines lecture and demonstration with practical exercises. A review of basic firearms principles is followed by a discussion of the basic tools and equipment required to carry out a shooting reconstruction.
Other topics include related disciplines such as blood spatter, trace evidence, footwear/tire tread impressions and latent prints.
Specialized equipment, ballistics software, and specialized firearms techniques will also be discussed. These and other topics will be reinforced and expanded through the study of actual case histories involving shooting reconstructions from the instructor’s extensive background in the area.
The class will be completed with a discussion of court exhibit preparation and presentation, including comments on effective court testimony in shooting reconstruction cases.
