
This three-day course is designed for crime scene personnel and criminal investigators. It prepares the student to document, assess, and recover footwear and tire impression evidence. Included will be information on the various forms and ways in which this evidence occurs as well as methods for its detection, treatment, and recovery at the crime scene. Also included are demonstrations of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional impression photography, casting techniques and science, and the use of electrostatic, gelatin, and adhesive lifting materials. Additional topics to be discussed include shoe sizing, barefoot impression evidence, and footwear and tire databases and resource materials. Case histories will be used to demonstrate the application of the topics covered in class. Demonstrations will be provided, including the use of basic crime scene chemical enhancement methods. Practical exercises will also be included to allow the participants to gain further insight into the value and application of this form of evidence.
